Question about Aseels

First i will say i have not raised asils or any orientals games- yet. But what i have heard about them..

Yes they're gamefowl. You can not keep 2 roosters together with any game breed. Asil hens are extra feisty and many of them will kill other hens and roosters if the rooster is not at mature age when you put them in the breeding pens (not saying, if you kept them in the same pen together growing up they would fight, not sure on that). Even 3-4 month old stags (that's cockerels) can and will kill each other.

Most of the american asils are not pure, they have many other breeds crossed into them. So finding good quality ones is kind of hard... Most of our american asils do not top 5 pounds.

Yup, they can be poor layers, but it all depends on the lines truthfully. I've talked to a few oriental breeders that actually have good luck with them (sure it isn't as much as production breeds, but it's alright).

If anyones going to get them i say yes, do your research. That's not just for gamefowl either... Before you get any breed you should thoroughly research everything about them. There was a good article on them in the Backyard poultry mag a few months back..

PS. Never cared much for fluffy butts myself, gimme some hard/tight feathers

Ok well i have an Aseel Roo and he's my favorite. I would not reccommend him to a beginner though. He thinks i'm his boss lol. I have to cage him completely seperate from all other roo's and he got in a little squabble the other day with my golden sebright roo between a cage and i had to grab him. I had a hen but she was sooooo mean towards other hens and she only laid two eggs in 3 or 4 months. I got rid of her but i love my aseel roo. I would not reccommend getting them as they have to be caged as pairs usually. Heres some pics

Usually when raised with the parents they wont fight. but when separated they will try to fight for dominance, especially the males. My personal experience with them, i had to raise them with their parents because the moment i separated the chicks, they were constantly fighting a few days later(almost killing eachother). But when reintroduced back to their parents they were fine, but their parents will peck at them when reintroduced. Very poor egg layers. My aseels weren't very flighty, they're a bitmore tamer than my Blue Sumatras who are like BarnCats (tolerate my presence, but didn't want anything to do with me).
