Question about CL in goats

thanks for all the links and info, it seems like a very controlable illness. I know the guy Im geting the vaccine from said he has really good success with it and severel people he sends it too does as well.

What other vaccines would I need to make sure they had before I make my desicion?

I was going to put them out on the farm away from my goats here in town to quaretine them and make sure I get it under controle, Of all the goats they had, probably 15 or so, only 2 have any lumps. So My idea was make 2 pens at the farm, one for the 2 with lumps and 1 for those without. How long does it take for the lumps to show up? Since I will not be compramising my other goats I think I might just give it a try. Worst case Id have to put them down. The farm is about 8 miles from here so no chance they will get around each other.

He did tell me of a gal in OH I think that was having a hard time even with the vaccine but she has been treating with grapfruit seed extract and she is having success with that, it keeps them from rupturing I guess.

Anyway, a list of all vaccines that I should give would be appreciated as well as the cheapest place to get them.

If you pen them at the farm, I would pen them in cattle panel fences, with a shelter. If they pop an abscess the pus will sit and wait for another host. The best way to rid the pen/shelter of the contamination factor is to use a hand torch, and scorch the pen, shelter, fence, and feeders. There are liquids you can spray, but scorching is the most effective method.

Oh forgot to answer, carriers can carry forever and never spread the disease, or they can be stressed from the move, kidding, whatever, and suddenly you have an outbreak.

So if they can only transmite once the lump ruptures right?

And yes I have severel cattle pannels already and an old tin shed we are going to move out there. So everything will be metal, just need to go pick up some tin feed pans. I can do this!! I would not have even considerd it if I did not have the farm. But noone anywhere near there has goats and the nearest house is half a mile away anyway. And its crop land that surounds it so not even any cattle or anything. And my horses are in the back so they wount even be close to the goat pens.

Sheep have CL, they call it ORF, and people can catch it, so please be careful if you are treating/handling these goats. Transmission is via pus, and the pus can come from an abscess that is inside or out. Internal CL is the worst, it can and often does kill the goat. External is another issue all together.

I would. There are plenty of healthy animals out there, so no one really need to take on a known problem. BUT, I have to admire the seller, at least he told you the truth about his herd.
