Yeah, it is reasonable. If you cannot afford it, you might do something I had considered (but rejected because there is an existing outlet right behind the coop.) How about purchasing a solar unit designed for an electric fence? I have priced them for about $55, you can run the wire to a light inside, and you can expect one hour's worth of power from it.
