question about feeding oats

is it ok to feed oats like oats for cows to chickens as a treat? i give them oatmeal but dont know if its along the same line

My chickens love oats, but I've never given them just the grains...I planted some this spring and I cut off the tops and toss them in the run and they love pecking the seeds out of the pods.

They'd likely love it, but don't give too much...should be more of a "treat" than regular feed. Check to see if they've been treated with anything too...some of those additives aren't very good for 'em
