Question about large cat noise (bobcats, mountain lions)

The Great State of Pennsylvania also denies the existence of mountain lions, but they are here. I don't know what you heard, but I don't ever want to hear a litter of mountain lion cubs!

This is what it sounded like, but there was more than one distinct "voice" that's why we thought babies. It repeated over and over again, like kittens do when they cry.

Like I've said, we've seen and heard the bobcats, and it sounded different. Sounds like she might have babies by the house...would explain her raiding the goats farms around here, nightly.

And my son can't understand why I won't let him camp in the woods behind the house with his friends!

If its a bobcat make sure to get the chicken house door closed. If its a cougar forget the chickens and get the hell outta there. Bobcats weigh about 30lbs and Cougars about 200lbs.

In Colorado Cougars dont mess with chickens, they would rather eat peoples yard dogs, which they do like popcorn. Every few years they will snack on a school boy and about ten years ago in Idaho Spings, a cougar killed a high school cross country runner, ate half of him and buried the rest for later.

I could see how someone could describe it as a roar.

A short, barky roar.

After hearing the different ones on YouTube, I am convinced that's what I heard. Sounded just like the one I posted, but there was more than one. That's what made us think a litter of kittens. It was chilling, to say the least! Even more so since I know what it was!

sred that video is awesome but it is also distorted. it is a much sharper sound in person...females do sound like that when they are cornered for sure and, according to that, in heat but it is not a raspy and distorted as that.

I have got to rig a recorder out here and get this one talking at night.

Sadly, most lions only have 1 or 2 but here in our area that is a good thing...we have an extreme over population just in our county.

Yeah, I played it for DH, it was close enough that we are pretty certain that is what it was. Where are you located? What part of the country? I listened to over a dozen recordings til I heard that one. A lot of them just weren't good quality. If you are on there listening and find a better one, or get yours taped, please post a link on here. I'd love to hear it and compare!

I know that we have them, we've seen them, but this was the first time we had heard something like that at night here. Our property is 15 acres, and backs to a couple thousand that the goat guy owns. Our neighbors lost 3 dogs a few days back. They were gutted. We figured the cat did it. During the snow, we followed the tracks from our creek, up the side of our ridge, down the pathway, then back down to the creek. A few days later, fresh tracks.

Our goats refused to go onto that part of the property. The horses only go up part way. Now we know why.

that is SO SCAREY!!!!!!! there was one at my dads house when they first started building his development. the HOA sent a little memo out about keeping your pets inside till it was caught. you couold hear the thing in the evenings. most frightening thing ever!

You're right Shelly, I've seen them on more then one ocassion here in central Ok. and can probably come across good tracks in 20 mins. or so along the Cimmarron. Last year in the snow there were tracks going across the back pasture that were way too big for Bobcat.

It's like a few years ago when Edmond animal control issued a statement that there were no Bobcats in the area. Seems small dogs and cats were coming up missing. Well the MIL lives just on the West side of the city limits of Edmond and they trap on average 7 a year. One they were going to get mounted but nobody built forms large enough for it.

I know what you mean we have anacadaes here in FL, a massive amount of them. LIve stock, including calves are disappearing nightly, and daily. They say we should protect them and yesterday one ate a little girl, four year old. Don't you love it when your state is in denial about the conditions of your home?

They say there is no problem! Welcome to FL, beware of being eaten by a giant snake that shouldn't even be here! Head count on them now are at 1,041 and that is just the ones that they have tagged this summer! Nice hu? I think I would rather hear the cats and least then I wouldn't be so parnoid for my hens, and my other animals as well as my seven year old that doesn't go out to play much now a day.

PS it's not even snake season YET! These beast should be outlawed nation wide.
