by no means am i going to open my bator! i know better than that! lol

it is day 23 for them...but like swtangel321, might take longer since our power went out...
im not sure on humidity. i filled up the bottom and put a sponge in there on day 18. everything was dry again yesterday, so i added a little water yesterday through the vent holes...

i did feel alot better a little while ago though...i was watching the eggs to see what was going on, and the one that pipped first was moving around, and stuck its beak out of the hole for a second, the crack in the egg also looked a little bigger...the second one looked like it was wobling around too! yay! hopefully the last 2 eggs will pip soon too! and hopefully i will come home tonight to at least one cute little chick all hatched out!

anyway, i am in barnstead, swtangel321...how about you? i noticed it said you were from nh.

I am right above Plymouth NH, have you ever heard of Thornton ??

I had a horse that looked just like yours years ago... Her name was Kara.

so i have one chick hatched!!!

yay! (it was the white one) it is a very cute little yellow chick.
im unsure of breed...my neighbors gave me a mess of eggs from their flock, but it looks like a white leghorn crossed with whatever rooster is...he's a very large brown and greenish ect rooster...i dont remember what breed...

anyway, nothing new on the brown and other white egg that pipped...it took this little one a little over 17hrs to come out (finally got out a little after 5pm), so hopefully the same will go for the others...i still have 2 eggs that havent had any activity

.

im working on getting pics posted of the first chick....the computer's slow when it comes to loading a mess load of pictures online...

anyway, i forgot to answer your question about my horse's name...its AJ (short for Attorney General...not sure where the "J" came from) i bought him right before equine affair. hes such a great horse too! i have heard of thornton...never been there, but have heard of it...

alright, so new update...the chick that hatched last night is doing great! it was cheeping and jumping around the incubator last night (can only imagine how much sleep i got in there considering i have 2 jacks, a basset, and a lab that sleep in my room)

anyway, the second egg (the brown one) made a very large hole in the egg, but is now just sitting there...its rolling around, and cheeping, and pecking, so its trying to get out but not much is happening... it looks like its wing is infront of the hole? not sure if that matters? its been like that since 11pm last night...any ideas? im hoping it will get out soon! the first chick is very lonely!

heres some more pics...

anyway, Merry Christmas everyone!

Hi chubbydog --
Congrats on your babies! 3 of mine are out now, and I have one that sounds a LOT like your little slowpoke. It's had a good sized hole, beak sticking out, pretty much all day long. I don't know if she can't figure out how to zip, or is stuck, or what. She sticks her beak in and out of the hole and sometimes opens/closes the beak. I'm worried and hope s/he makes it!!

How're yours coming along?
Merry Christmas to you and your chickies,
Lynda

thanks again!
we had to help the chick in the brown shell along (i know, worse thing i could ever do! but i didnt want to lose the chick!
hmm.png
)...

it was about 4pm today that we helped it out a bit...(it started zipping 12/24 around 7 pm ish, though like i said before, it was around 11pm that it stopped trying)...i looked this morning, and it hadnt made any progress. figured i would give it the day to try to figure it out, i checked at lunch, still no progress. i checked again at 4ish before we went out to let in horses, and the only progress it made was from the other chick pecking at the brown shell chick trying to help it out...it was cheeping, but every time i watched it, it had stopped trying to peck out, and wasnt moving around at all...just breathing and cheeping - it wasnt even poking its beak out of the shell anymore!...we helped it out before going out for horses...

i found that the shell membrane was very hard, and past dry (probably why it couldnt get out), even though i have been pouring a lot of water in there, i dont think the humidity is high enough.
the chick is doing great now. its still very tired, but it looks very relieved to be out of its shell. it was even hopping around the incubator, and checking everything out...i havent gotten to take any pics yet...

going by the fact that the humidity is too low, i dont think the 3rd chick that pipped will come out. it hasnt done anything since it pipped. the other 2 eggs i didnt think were going to hatch out anyway. when i candled them on day 18, not much was going on in there...but i left them just because...

anyway...at least 2 of them are out and happy!!!
