I will keep my responses to this thread very minimal. Game fowl are behaviorally more flexible than other domestic chicken breeds. That flexibility makes possible the management to control many behaviors which I do frequently. The limitation will be from being a novice are being too bone headed to make changes in rooster management.I don't really buy the idea that it is the humans fault. This is when, as AARt says, the romance hits the reality. And as you have found out, rooster attacks are more violent than many people think.
I vote reconsider the soup pot. If you like this breed, that is fine, just cause this one is a no go, does not mean that all roosters of this breed are this way. Contact some poultry clubs, and get a good rooster.
If you have small children, I strongly recommend letting this rooster go.

There is a nature and nurture component to problems like this. Many poultry keepers seem more limited on their side where nature controls the human side too much.
