Question about sick rabbit

She did have a nest box, just chose not to use it this time.

She's my fifth litter since deciding to do meat rabbits, and I guess her behavior was just so different to me! Do rabbits pass an afterbirth?

I made the babies a super nice nest so hopefully they will stay toasty. They were chilly enough I didn't want to risk it.

Well she described a listless bunny that will move when startled... That sounds like a broody hen to me. Lol. But I guess the screaming part and hind leg standing would be offsetting.

Now that I know a rabbits eyes can glaze over..

We had our friend over giving him the lay of the land so he can house sit. He thought for sure she was having a stroke. LOL

Yes they pass afterbirth, and at the risk of sounding completely gross, they catch it and eat it as it comes out. Rabbit births are very tidy and clean. Awesome animals. Oh, and even if you don't see the mama caring for them, if they have full fat bellies, she is. Rabbits are standoffish with their young. My last litter was 9 and we only lost two, which is a great record. That being said, weeks 2-6 are high mortality weeks. Do not be surprised to lose a few.

OOOOO!!! I know this one!!! They do pass an afterbirth, but we never see it, because they eat it.

Barf. lol

Exactly!!! Our last litter she had overnight. We woke up to 9 kits, no blood and clean babies. They really are good mothers, just not overly attentive.

Well, I spoke too soon. I asked hubby to check on them at six, he didn't wake me up, so I figured all was fine. She's in the nest, and I know she's not a good enough mom to feed already, usually her milk doesn't come in right away anyway.

She stomped three, and than while I was there, she jumped out of the nest, streched out, screamed and died. THAT was a little horrifying. I think there is another baby in there but I"m not sure how useful I'd be trying to cut it out if I have no 'wet nurse' does right now. My only nursing doe, her little is three weeks and active so I'm not sure if she'd be any help.
