Question about varieties of white quail

Our quarantine system is insane coming in to just my state, I cant even import live birds from other states.

Allows king quail, stubble quail (Coturnix pectoralis) and brown quail (Coturnix ypsilophora) only.

I understand we need to protect our native species but the others are already here anyway.
I have received eggs in the post. Maybe I've broken the law without even knowing whups.

Hum...so as I understand it here in California we cant keep California quail....you know the ones with the little top-knot. Not that I want to anyway, but as far as I know that is our only restriction. In the US folks mail birds and eggs all over the place, state to state. Im planning to get some eggs from the East Coast if it works out. I really want some small white ones to hatch myself. Im trying to get a person who advertises on San Francisco Craigs List to select out a couple doz of his smalles Texas A&M eggs for my hatching then pet pleasure. Since I dont eat the eggs or the meat I do prefer the smaller quail.

Fawn chicks look like a carmel colored pharaoh chicks they dont resemble jumbo whites at all. Sometimes jumbo whites are pretty pale, even to the point when theyre in the light they have kind of a 'silver' look to their feathers. If its a yellow chick its white or its golden.

The two "Fawn" ones I got were almost mature. I dont know the sex yet as no crow or eggs that I know of. I rescued them from a slaughter house. Shopping for golden females there but these were just so pretty I couldnt resist. Even it they are male, I dont mind because their color is so different without the speckling.

I got some pics of one of the quail Im referring to as "fawn colored." The first picture is a comparison of two goldens in the pen. The second picture shows just the fawn colored one. Is this just a very light version of golden or a white variation perhaps?

Never heard of scissors for doing this. I have been scrambling them for my chickens to eat and when I got to break them open my thumb generally penetrates the egg. I find that the membrane if very tough but the shell very fragile. The scissors just might be the answer! Thanks.

Oh, you can't crack a quail egg like a chicken egg. The shell is thinner and the membrane is tough, as you have found out, and it just makes a mess. You need to cut the shell with egg scissors or with a serrated knife like this...

I used this method until I got the scissors. Clean and easy!
