W/duck eggs, I almost have to wash them lightly. If they're not DIRTY I don't. I try to just dampen the egg & scrub off what I can w/my hand/nails, and then rinse again. It really is a matter of choice, but I have not noticed my hatch rate effected at all by this - for instance my shipped eggs just had a 6/8 rate yesterday..
