question about weird honking noise?

I have 2 RIR's that honk like geese. I have a BO that lets out a holler when she loses her Barred Rock friend and the Barred Rock yells her head off when she gets mad! They are noisier than roosters!

I have a black Silkie that honks and when she does she gets everybody else all excited. At first, I thought she was doing it as a warning of something, but after going out there numerous times and nothing was ever wrong, I decided she was just 'honking'.

I never would have thought some of the noises I hear around here could be produced by a chicken. They can sound like geese, children, dinosaurs...

I was just about to post this same thing. One of my dominique girls (11 weeks old) has changed from cheeping to clucking, but it's a very deep-sounding noise like a goose honk. Is her voice just deep? I should have named her Barry White, lol.

Can you get a video of her doing it? It might just be sneezing. Mine sneeze all the time and it varies in sound just as human sneezes vary, from a squeak to a honk.

I've got a hen that honks like a goose.

Where are you located? A honking noise *can* be a sign of respiratory distress if they are too hot. One way to eliminate this as a reason is to find ways to help them to cool down if they need it. I have one who is more heat sensitive than the others. She holds her wings out and pants when its only 70 and none of the others has even noticed it is warm. By the time it hits triple digits, she is honking like crazy and I have to make sure she has access to water pans she can stand in to cool her feet, misters, cool water to drink, shade etc.
