My head of the flock is now my black laced red Wyandotte, Charlie. She is a very sweet girl but no one messes with her and she always eats treats first. Before yesterday, it was my big Lav Orp rooster Eevee. Charlie was his first love and she always got to eat before others. He was a good protector and he loved me like I was part of the flock and he respected me. I will miss him so much. Now the jostling begins anew, I have three other boys that are coming of age and one of my Lav Ameraucanas is attempting to assert himself even though he’s a smaller boy than his brother. However, Charlie and my other bigger hen Elinor will put him in his place and he backs down from them immediately. He is also my very favorite chicken and always visits me and sometimes comes inside to watch football with me and will sleep like a baby in my armsNali is our current head pullet, blue laced red wyandotte. We recently lost our head pullet Ramen (Buff Orpington) to a coyote so there's been jostling in the pecking order. Her contender is currently molting and seems to have dropped a peg or two since she started. We shall see how that turns out. All the girls are 8 months old.
