Question for BS experts (and I mean that in the nicest possible way)...

Still looks like a hen to me

Isn't anyone else wondering about their BS chicks?
I'd love to see pictures of your babies for comparison!

Cute little LY today, he/she is rather shy but still friendly.

New2,just put 12 black shoulder silver pied eggs in the bator tonight from Roadtrips harem from the past 7 days of gathering.Your pic above is a hen. There is still no distinct semi circle of the front train feathers showing right behind the neck,on top of the front of the back. Also bs males does not have the amber color around their necks as bs hens will have their entire life.

Hello There. You have a lovely Black Shouldered Hen. This, to me, is the first pic which clearly tells the tale. I could have told you about a month ago, if there had been a picture showing what this one does, the upper back. To me, and this is just how I know, which may be different than the way others do ..... it is those feathers high upon the back that are the defining characteristic, and not whether a bird is darker or lighter than another one. There will always be some variation in the color depth. Those high back feathers have a much more soft, evenly mottled appearance on the female, while on the male, the feathers have much more chunky splotches of black. As far as I know, this never fails to distunguish the two, and this should be apparent by around 6-8 weeks of age. I hope this helps. I love the B/S Peafowl; they have always been my favorite of them all.

Here are some pictures of my BS. I think it is a hen, but really not sure. She is around 3 months old. Can anyone else tell me if male or female?

That's what I think too. The woman that we got her off of said all her BS chicks have always been males, but this chick tells another story.

Well, I'll leave it to the experts (since I'm having my first BS experience), but this doesn't look BS to me.
I say that because he/she has no dark coloring at all.

Here's our BS (apparently a hen!) at 3 months:

Again, I'm a complete color novice, but that's also what I thought. However, it does look like a hen, regardless of what color it is. Again, color idiot here!
