Question for BS experts (and I mean that in the nicest possible way)...

New2,your little yellow if black shoulder will be a male.This is clearly evidence by the black now coming and growing outwards on his wing feathers and some on the back starting at the midrib and growing outwards. If you remember last summer there was a discussion that peafowl feathers don't change color,,I said they do change as they grow and posted many pics to prove this. B/S hens are mainly white with black "splotches" or the edges of their feathers are outlined with black pigment,at least all my b/s hens( 13 of them I think?) All the feathers that now show black at the midrib of the feather will eventually be totally black.

OK, here LY is, just over 2.5 months.
I'm really thinking boy because of the darkness on his neck/head but what do I know?

I don't yet see the first feathers that stand when displaying the tail.I mean color defining this area of feathers.You will see this semi-circular pattern of feathers in a male,which when the tail or train is raised for displaying,this is the first group of short feathers that do not contain eyes.They maybe only 1 foot or so long.

To me it looks female. I have two BS shoulder chicks here that are younger and have a lot more black on them then yours does. I don't even see any green neck feathers and the males will start to show them now and have a bunch by 3 months old.

Hmm...interesting!
LY definitely shows no green on his/her neck, and all of the LIBs (Little IBs!) are already glimmering in the sunlight.
We'll see!

I was out of town for a few days and LY seems like he darkened up a bit!
Aside from the coloring (which I don't have the experience to interpret), his tail feathers are now really saying "boy" to me.
He'll be 3 months old on Wednesday.
I hope you guys aren't getting sick of LY; as I noted earlier, I'm hoping this thread and pictures of color progression will be helpful to other BS chick owners...
