Question of the Day - Wednesday, September 4th, 2024

I always thought oats had to be cooked or softened in some way in order for our bodies to be able to digest them, extract the nutrition from them. So to make granola we bake the oats along with other ingredients; some people will soak the oats in milk overnight to make them more digestible. What you have here in your muesli, @BDutch, looks a lot like our granola - looks delicious.

I put fruit (apple, banana, blueberries, strawberries, etc) or cinnamon in oatmeal, and add maple syrup or sugar to sweeten. I don't like it unsweetened. I also usually add butter and some flax seed blend. I have never tried molasses in oatmeal, nor chocolate syrup!

I do like molasses plain (a nice spoonful -- yum) and use it for things like cookies, and I put chocolate syrup on ice cream or in milk.

Yoghurt -musli -topping

The ingredients of the musli in the picture are complex because I mixed 2 different packages. One (1) is mainly with oat flakes.

1) Oat flakes* 60%, sultanas (sultanas* 29.5%, sunflower oil*), sunflower seeds* 6.5%, dried apricot pieces (apricot* 1.8%, rice flour*), almond* 1%, hazelnut*^1 0.5%, dried apple pieces* 0.5%, ^1Rainforest Alliance Certified. Learn more at ra.org., *From organic sources.

2) The other one is more complex and has barley, oat and wheat flakes, dried fruits (raisins, dates, pineapple , papaja, apple, banana) and seeds like sunflower, hazelnut, linseed and pumpkin.

The topping with fresh fruit (blue berry) makes it even better.

All I can say is yummmm.
My GC can't have wheat but everything else sounds amazing.
We're making a new batch tomorrow, adding more dried fruit than in first batch. I eat it dry out of my hand, like a trail mix. As well as with milk and yogurt for breakfast.

I've never heard of anyone putting either of those in oatmeal. For that matter, I'm the only person Ive ever known who uses molasses for any purpose. The go to is brown sugar for oatmeal, though I don't use any of that. I eat my oatmeal with cinnamon and raisins, nothing else.

I don’t eat the cooked instant oats but raw flakes. The cooked oat flakes (havermout) is mostly given to infants 👶 .

This was my breakfast this morning. View attachment 3936736
Raw oat and wheat flakes, raisins, dried seeds and other pieces of fruit , added a few fresh blueberries. 😋
My husband eats oatmeal raw like that, with milk and brown sugar. I'll have to let him know he's not the only one.
