Question on dubbing

Hi, I have a ? on dubbing. I have an OEG rooster, about a year old. He got into a fight with a much larger rooster, and got the crap beat out of him! (thats what he gets for getting out of the pen!) His comb, which was really tall and lopped over, is now a bloody mess. This happened last week. I cleaned him up, put some antibacterial ointment on it, and now it looks like its a piece of raw bacon! Its kind of curled up, one side has scabs on it and the other side is whitish colored and looks dead. When I tried to straighten it up he squacked at me, so it must be painful. He is supposed to go to the County Fair in 3 weeks. Should I dub it? and if so, how? or will it eventually look normal again? Thanks in advance for any and all advice.
 
If you leave it alone, it will always be scarred and scraggley. Whether it will straighten up I cannot predict without seeing how badly it was injured. If you are showing him, and he is nearly a year old, he must be dubbed, or he will be disqualified.

Short answer to how is with a pair of scissors (they make special ones for dubbing, but I don't believe they are necessary). However, there is a style that is needed, and different breeds have differents dubbing styles. Contact your county extension or local poultry club and see if you can find an Old English breeder nearby who can show you how.
