Question on GMO feed

Okay, both sides are passionate about their beliefs. Please don't discredit one another because there's no proof because that river flows both directions (no proof it's bad for you but also no proof that it's not bad for you). If you want to use and grow GMO products go ahead, but those of us that choose not to should be able to look at a product in the store and know that it is GMO so that we can choose not to buy it. Why not label it?? Why should people who choose to grow organically have to pay all the money to label their products but people who choose to grow GMO's do not? Both sides should have to foot the bill and let the people decide for themselves (although it appears that Monsanto doesn't want that to happen with the amount of money they put in the CA props).

Everyone is entitled to an opinion so please quit throwing stones at each other and agree to disagree because honestly, it doesn't matter which side of the fence you're on, you are not going to change your thinking because this person said this or this person said that.

There is an amazing amount of misinformation and logical fallacy being thrown around in here.

GMO is not one specific thing with one specific set of risks or benefits. Every single GM plant will be different based on what plant it is and what was done to it. Anyone claiming "All GMO's are this" or "Al GMO's are that" are factually wrong.

For those of you who want less pesticide, less need for supplemental irrigation, more yield, or yields with improved nutritional value- you should be educating yourselves about and probably embracing GM crops.

Those of you saying "They aren't well understood" or "They aren't tested or shown to be safe" are not only factually wrong but it is offensive to myself and other professional plant scientists who spend years (sometimes decades) working to create and understand how to make better plants. I work for a university and earn a shockingly small paycheck but it is important to me to try to help advance our ability to feed our ever growing population and diminish the environmental damage done by widespread pesticide use. I don't insult your job simply because I don't understand it and I think it would be swell if you'd do the same for me.

I honestly don't care what you feed yourself or your chickens but many of you are forming your opinions on gross misinformation. If you want to cite something- try peer reviewed scientific journal articles and not just random stuff that anyone can post on the internet at "GMOsAreEvil.com or whatever propaganda websites you are getting this from.

DUDE, your post is the exact reason that I posted what I did right before you!! Sure you have a degree but I'm sure that the scientists that did all the research on all of these drugs that are now being sued because they have been proven to be bad for you did, too!!! The knowledge is not there on either side regarding GMO's. I respect the fact that you do what you do but in the same turn you don't know long term effects either.

You have a good idea. Unfortunately for you, your new idea it is ALREADY is inforce through out the land.

Any caner, packer, or other food producer who wishes to, can currently label its food like this.
"THIS PRODUCT CONTAIN IS NO GENETICALLY MODIFIED INGREDIENTS"
Then anyone who objects to GMs can buy this product and avoid all others like the plague.

If you or anyone else are interested in knowing what is in your food there are food labels out there NOW that inform you. They all identify food with NO GM ingredients.

Don't be fooled. The Antis real reason for wanting to do this is to fabricate a SCARLET LETTER and then force their scarlet letter on food labels similar to the way blue noses in past centuries treated wayward women, by branding their cheeks with an "A"

As for proof, a long as GMOs have been in the food supply, proof would already be available. This "controversy" is akin to the old beliefs (still alive in parts of Europe) that tomatoes and American maze are poison to humans. BTW, there was more so called scientific evidence behind these old food prejudges than is behind banning or labeling GMO food.

The reason most products aren't labeled is that unless the entire grain harvest,storage and transport system were redesigned, there is NO WAY to know if the grain is or is not "GMO"

It would cost millions, if not billions, of dollars, and all that cost would be passed on to customers

The best you'll ever get in the way of labeling is "MAY contain GMO"

Have you looked into the fact that GMO corn is modified by being 'round-up ready' . Thats the GMO particular that seems to be the possible harmful area. Not all GMOs are the same. The article in Mother Earth News is alarming! Problems will come up just like any new drug or product on the market -after the guinea pigs test it-and thats all us!

No one has ever proven there are any harmful effects caused by GMO crops.
