Question on mypetchicken order

I ordered 5 from them and they came on a tuesday, it would have been wednesday but the guy at the mail distribution center called me and I picked them up that night. Very nice of him if you ask me, it saved the chicks another night and another truck ride. All 5 were healthy and great and are all doing well today.

I would make myself a nuissance at the PO.

I know that the batch of feed store chicks I goi mine from sat in the PO here for more than a day because the PO worker "forgot" to call the feed store! They may have gotten them in an afternoon shipment, I'm guessing you went in or called early in the morning. I would go in, stand in line, ask, and then wait while they go back and double check that your peepers are or are not there yet. And let them know you'll be back as early as possible tomorrow to check again. They may just give you a very early wake up call when they do get in, if they aren't already there!

Good advice WhySayWhat! I did pick up my chicks at the distribution center in the afternoon. If they hadn't called, then I am sure that it would have been the next day. I was also talking to someone in my general area that said that they were called at midnight when the express truck arrived. Let them know that you want them when they arrive, no matter what time.

Out local PO is small. I know everyone who works there. (There are only 3 people... heck there is even a mail slot for intown mail. Until I moved here, I have never seen that. Makes me think they deliver it with a horse and buggy like the good old days.) I called again.....The lady said no chickens. I believe her. She even told me not to worry because maybe they mailed them late. *sigh*

I also ordered from mypetchicken - the chicks were shipped Mon, I received Wed, in upstate SC - 2 were dead on arrival, one died a few hours later, one that night .....in all, 6 died within the allowed 48 hours - and a seventh the next day - there was NO heat pack in my box either - I got mine in mid March, which was pretty chilly - I lost a THIRD of my order- they did refund the cost of the chicks. I complained loudly, as they claim a 1% loss rate - apparently they must be having problems with the hatchery they use. They do not notify you of shipping - they suggest you inform your post office that you are expecting a shipment of live chicks, and make sure they have the best number to call you when they get there - my PO called me at 6:20 AM!! Hope your experience is better than mine - I was really getting depressed after the third and fourth babies died - then more and more. I replaced them with chicks from TSC, which are all doing great. Best wishes!

I believe that MPC actually gets their chicks from Meyer Hatchery in Ohio, and I see that you live in California. I work for the Postal Service and I can tell you that it's probably too far to get there that quick even using express.

probably tomorrow morning. I will be in the same boat next week as I have an order coming from MPC. I'm hoping mine will be here on Tuesday. I sure hope they get to you soon! Good Luck!

I've ordered from MPC twice. Got my first batch of girls from them two years ago. Shipped on Monday and received on Wednesday, all healthy and well.
Got my 2nd batch from them in late February of this year. I discovered a USPS express mail site that tells how long express mail should take for your location. It showed me that if I used my local (small town) post office, which I'd used before, it would take 2 days for the chicks to reach me. But if I used a post office about 20 minutes away (a main post office branch), it would only take 24 hours. So I used general delivery for THAT post office instead, and got my chicks the next day rather than 2 days later. Once again, all were happy and healthy. They do use heat packs in their boxes, if that makes you feel any better.

Here's the calculator. But you need to know the origination zip. Not sure whether you know yours or not. I knew MPC used Myers out of Polk, OH in this area, so I used that zip. Do you know if they use Myers for your location????

Kit..I so feel your pain..Sounds just like what I went thru. I didn't call them until days later so no money back for me..I'm glad you got your money back! But by then I just didn't care..I was heartbroken watching them all die..Very depressed as well. My DH buried them in the field where the others will someday range..He felt soo bad also, he said this basically almost ruined the experience in general.. (we hatched 17 of our own) all of which are great..My Post Office called me bright and early Wed too..that certainly wasn't the problem...No heat pack was the problem..I wish I knew the hatchery they used? but..I worked very hard to save them all but at least I have 2 survivors which I adore

So I learned my lesson..And Good luck to others!!
