Question on thermostats

Where exactly do you drill the holes? I think I'm going with the wafer thermo from Georgia but just incase u find a water heater thermo laying around its good to have the info. I've read references to drilling but no instruction on how it's done.

Right below the 2 bolts on the front drill through it. On the back there are 3 larger vent holes widen them out. When you place the thermostat, the back needs to be facing the light bulb about 1 to 2 inches away. A fan blowing across the light bulb into the back of the thermostat. By doing this it will stabilize the tempature, and make the thermostat more sensitive.

I also use a computer fan that has a blue LED light on it. This way when the light is off I can still see inside
