Rest in Peace -2017
My understanding is that wheaten can crop up in a lot of BCM lines. And you can't really tell by looking at the parents, you have to hatch out a lot of chicks and see what you get. So, I'd be sure to let the breeder know, more as an fyi than anything else. Problem is, the breeder won't be able to figure out which hen was the mother so they won't know which bird to pull. But I think the rooster has to be a carrier also, so they could replace him.
I fell into Marans cause I bought some off CL on a whim. I've been pleasantly surprised at the quality of the chicks. I was fully expecting to get some crop outs like your chick, but none so far. Of course, I tell my Honey I need to keep hatching, to prove the purity of my color
. Just to be sure, you understand!
