So this is the first time I have hatched out ducks and I have a few questions. I am hatching our Rouen ducks and yesterday would have been day 28. Many of the eggs have pipped yesterday but this morning there has been no more improvement. They have been moving a bit and peeping but none have tried to make their big debut. I was wondering if I needed to take action and help them out or if I should still let them go at it on their own. Please let me know. I had no idea how stressful this hatching ordeal would be. Thanks!!!

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

I have never hatched ducks before but I have hatched other fowl and I can tell you that once they pip, they can sit there for 24+ hours as they are absorbing the last of the egg yolk and detaching from the inside of the egg. You should have your humidity way up and do NOT open the lid of the incubator as you can cause them to dry up and stick to the inside of the shells and die.

Stop by our ducks section for more help with this hatch....https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/42/ducks

Good luck with this hatch and I hope you get lots of ducklings soon!!!

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Great advice there from TwoCrows. Hatching can't be rushed they need to do it themselves. Ducks can be two or three days before they hatch they seem to take a little longer than chickens. My best advice to you would be as TwoCrows keep that humidity up. Way up!!

Hope you have some new ducklings soon, wishing you the very best of luck and hope you enjoy BYC :frow

Not much has happened at all. The first picture just shows the pipped eggs. The second shows an odd spot that developed on the egg.

Welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join our flock. I'm a chicken person and don't know much about ducks (although I've had a few), but I have to admit that ducklings are the ultimate in cute. Definitely post on our duck link that TwoCrows left you with and take advantage of our duck experts there. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your hatch.
