Questions about Java's

Hehe. I like to sit on a bucket with the birds after I feed them and just sit back and watch. Probably more expensive than cable, but much more entertaining. Today the second I sat down "something" landed on my head. Sure enough it was one of my young Java roos that was looking for attention. I put him in my lap and started giving him pieces of grapes I had hidden in my pocket. Next thing I know I hear the rustle of feathers and another bird lands on my head. Sure enough it was one of the young Java pullets. I got a kick out of the fact that of the mixed flock of youngsters only the Java's were the attention hogs ( as I'm sure the grapes had nothing to do with it

). They were both quite content in my lap until my gander came over to explore.

I found my javas liked to stay together as a small group, even in mixed company. They foraged well before I penned them up for breeding. They were not flighty, but not especiall affectionate or curious either. They were just going about their busines and did not cause problems with the other birds. They were easily directed when it was time to go back in the pen for the evening. Their feathers were soft and smoothe to the touch. I did not make lap pets of mine but if you held one on your lap and petted it they did not automatically look for a way out. They started laying earlier and more consistently than any of my other breeds. The lady I got mine from shows from time to time and does well, though I don't know how many were at the shows. There are several people in the area that enjoy showing javas and all communicate and trade eggs and stock for ^ gene pool. Most of mine have more black pigment on their legs than yellow, which is desireable for showing, which I doubt most people care about. I hatched five or six of them this morning, one was weak and did not hatch. One is late, not sure if it will hatch or not. It is internally pipped and peeping. Don't blame the chick. It's how I incubate.

Wish I could do a better job, but I do the best I can with what I have. I get my share hatched but my bad numbers are across the board, not limited to one variety. Hope this helps. Sorry I did not see this sooner. Thanks for steering me here. Good luck in your search for the right flock!
