QUESTIONS on incubating peahen eggs...

I just bought peahen eggs, and the breeder told me to keep humidity at 56-62% (he kept his at 62% with his last hatch and got 20% more chicks than with the humidity at 52% and he said that 45% was way to low????? we are in the south where humidity is high anyway.... any thoughts????

Sorry I did not get back sooner. I got a peachick!!!!!!!!!!!!! Only 1 of the first 3 hatched but I have 3 more in lockdown due Sunday. I have upped my RH as much as I can due to all I am reading here so maybe that will help too. I am in Tn. and it is very humid here but 45-50% is tops for me too.

Kuntrygirl,,yes your rh will drop after several days as fresh air is brought into the bator,or the lid is taken off and as the air is constantly circulated.I close down the inlet vents and let things continue to rise until I reach to desired rh,then slowly tweek the vents open slightly. Does your fan blow directly over the water source used for humidity? When you do add water,is the water warm? Increasing surface area will increase rh over time.

No, the fan does not blow directly over the water source. When I add water, it is HOT water. Should I add warm water instead of hot water?

I have a Styrofoam still air but have a auto egg turner, its set up to move slowly from 1 side to the next over a 4 hr period and back again so its constantly moving. I have places 8 Pea eggs in with water and a thermostat.. Wish Me luck.. I too will try pointy end down like a hen to see my chances if any. I have no fan so maybe ill get 1 tmrw. i places eggs today. (Nervous like a new mother to be lol I hope i am not disappointed.. its not like a chicken were you can simply go back and get more UGH) Wish me luck!!!!!!
