^^ That's popcorn. The foot in the front is the one with the swollen toe. She is definitely favoring it when she walks. My husband says he can't tell she is limping, but I think it's obvious.

^^The pad on her foot with the swollen toe looks bigger than it did this morning. The pad here is the spot that I think I got the most out of, and looked like a chunk was missing when I was done. The toe I didn't get much out of, and didn't have a plug. I tired squeezing it when I cut the scab out too, and didn't see anything obvious to get out. The pad bled alot.... The toe not as much.

^^ For comparison. The one foot is clearly not as swollen. Before her procedure the pads were similar in size/swelling. The pad on the foot with the swollen toe was the one that I thought i had cleaned out the best.

@KikisGirls The toe today looks more swollen :( do you think I have to go through the whole clean it out thing again? I can enlist the husbands help after work if I should. I don't want to put her through more than necessary, but the toe one is not getting better... How long should it take?
Good news is we are going to start building the boys coop/run this weekend!

I would try to dig it out one more time...you can do it. ;)
IF it doesn't work again antibiotics would be then next step.

@KikisGirls Should i dig out just the toe, and leave the other two alone for now? wrap it up, and put her to bed in crate for the night?

If she were mine...I would dig out the pad of the foot and the toe.
Spray it/wrap it and put her back.
I don't like to separate them if at all possible.
If you do it closer to the evening time you can just put her up to roost.

aaaah OK. Do you go wider than the scab or just around the edge to dislodge/dig out? The infection is in the pus inside right? She is my prettiest chicken :(
I think she will be happier up on the roost too. I get nervous about keeping it cleaned.

The pus is hard...it's not like human pus.
It's more like cheese...that is the infection and what is causing the pain.

This of it like a nasty zit.
It hurts but as soon as you pop it it feel so much better right?

The two feet I fixed up recently got soaked in the epsom salt before..then kinda rinsed off and soak just for a few minutes again after the digging.
I'm not sure if the salt hurts to open wound or not...I don't think it hurts an worse then the pain the infection is causing.
