I didn't even bring my girl indoors..
I thought it would be less stressful for her to be in her normal surroundings and did it in the back yard.

What is the dark purple looking stuff in between the toes area?

I think thats the way the dirt caked in under the wrap she had on...I had wrapped it up between her toes to hold the bandage around the toe one. I'm gonna soak her feet now so if it doesn't come of its new...

Ok Procedure is as complete as I can do! She bled alot. I tried to be more steady while I was using the knife. I got more of a plug out of her toe then I did the first time. it literally looked like i popped a chunk out after her soak. I still cut around it though. Then the same with the pad.... I squeezed, and scooped with the knife...I didn't get anything like what I' ve see in some online photos of the cheesy pus.... how long do I wait before I know if i need to get her antibiotics? I feel bad hurting her even though I know she isn't well. She is back in the coop snuggling a friend. She drank some water. I took photos this time...

^^^ After. I'm not sure how big or deep i'm supposed to go, but i tried to be thorough. I had the small utility knife, and tweezers. It bleed a lot. Especially the pad on her foot.

^^ Her wrapped foot. It was hard to get the toe one covered. This is the part where I worry about it staying clean. Should I change the bandage daily if she is ranging or leave it for a day or so then check it?

@KikisGirls So it's raining out again today. We started work in our back yard so it's pretty much muddy mess today. Popcorn is out with the flock. Mostly hanging out under the covered run. She is definitely limping worse today, but i guess that isn't a surprise. it looks like the bandage is holding up so i have just been leaving her alone today. Should I just check on it this weekend when it looks like it needs a new bandage? How long before swelling should go down or I need to get antibiotics? I just want all the chooks to be healthy again, and Popcorn is the last one who isn't better yet!

I would wait a week.
If the swelling hasn't gone down in a week, that is when I would start her on antibiotics.

I wouldn't pay an attention to her limping right now....she just had surgery....lol.

I would also soak her foot again tomorrow..see if the soak will help pull some of the infection out.

Ok. I can handle that! At least with the foot soaks I feel like I'm making her feel better, and not traumatizing her. Why doesn't snuggling a chicken make them feel better?! I just want to hug her, and pet her.... it's hard to leave her alone :) She is happier being able to stay with the flock that is for sure. Should I do foot soaks throughout the week?
