No I do not, but I thought it should be easy enough to find one. Weigh myself first, and then holding chicken right?
Are they eating and drinking well?So I've got a scale now, and will be ready for accurate dosing tomorrow AM.
A couple of my girls looked like they were feeling down tonight when I closed them in. A couple of my hens; Popcorn and Bernie were puffed up with sad chicken tails. They also had droopy wings. I put newspaper to catch the small areas where poop sometimes misses my boards. I cleaned every nook in the coop. I hate that my chickens are not feeling well.
Dose those pullets now too.
All eggs should be thrown out for at least 10 days after your stop using the meds.
Are they eating and drinking well?
First of, Not true in THE LEAST.Avc will not prevent worms.
The paste for horses is good, so is the other for goats.
Either will work and TSC carried them both.
You'll find some there.
did not mean to sound harsh with my earlier post but a lot of people seem to thing that ACV or De or garlic will prevent worms...they simply don't and no one wants to believe it until their chicken, who has been on those things, starts pooping worms out.
The medicines will work and I personally think fecal tests are the best thing in the world (not really) but they are important so you don't have to give them un needed medicine.
A simply tests once or twice a year will let you know if you need to give the medicine or not.
I dosed the pullets this morning. Weighed all chickens before each dose. I def. was guessing in the ballpark, but was off by a lb or so with a few of my birds. I'm happy to be using the scale. Mostly because it made me able to see how small some of my hens have really gotten. I did not have one 6lb hen. I had a few that weighed the same as my 3lb pullets. I am so upset with how unwell they are. I have been learning ALOT!
@KikisGirls As you know I had Mites, and a fox this Spring. Getting rid of the mites did perk the girls up some. More of the color came back to their combs, and they weren't as puffed up anymore at night. I thought I had solved my problems. Then they started molting, and the weather got so hot, and humid. This is around when I noticed the runny poops, and dirty butts. Popcorn, Bernie, and a couple others. That's when I started to know that there was still something wrong. Popcorn is one of my top birds. When she started being slumped I was scared. Her poops have been consistently liquid, and I am going to post poo pics below from this morning. Last week I thought that they were acting starving (I'm guessing that should have been my clue for worms, but I thought i was preventing them with ACV)... They all seem to be eating, and are all deff. drinking plenty of water... More then usual I would say. Bernie is at the bottom right now, and she seems to wait before loading into the coop to eat, but she is eating. I will be home today, so I can watch to see if she is really drinking too.
The only other stressor I have going on right now is too many roosters.... Thank you Mr. Fox. I have been trying to come up with a way to have a bachelor pad so I can separate the boys when my ratios are off, and also during the colder months. That is when they are contained in a run. For now I have been letting them range so they can get away and forage. Some of the girls are getting too much loving, but it is feather damage, no scratches or open wounds. I had tried to make some saddles for the worst girls, but my sewing skills are limited, and they were able to get them off after a couple of days. A friend is mailing me one she made, and if hers works better I will get more...I now I want their backs to be protected until their feathers grow back.
I will dispose of the eggs. Today when I opened the coop the smell hit me so hard. There was so much poop! There were visible worms in 4 poo spots. Are these worms that are coming out dead? The chicken who I originally found them under, My head rooster Abraham, and some unknown. I found it amazing that there were worms in a couple of the poos that didn't look sick. They were nice looking, and as I scraped them off the poop board I saw the worms. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that there were more that I couldn't see. Is it also possible that they have more then one type of worm, and it's just the roundworms that I see coming out?
Is it possible they have something else going on at the same time? I've read about how worms can kill your birds. Is it possible they are this ill from the worms? Pooping so much, and getting handled every morning, and running from roosters must also be exausting?
