I’m thinking about raising quails but I’m not sure, do quails mix well with chickens? My chickens are pretty good with animals, dogs, rabbits, cats and so far my chicks, they haven’t bullied any of my other hens too much, I’ve also heard that they fly, would there be a risk of them leaving? Could I trim their wing feathers? And how are their eggs?
Anything that should be known about quails would be helpful!

Question #1: Do not raise quail with chickens! Chickens carry diseases that they can tolerate but will kill gamebirds; ie, quail, pheasants, turkeys, partridges.

Question #2: Yes, quail do fly. You cannot 'free range' quail, like you do chickens. They require a totally enclosed, predator proof enclosure/ pen. If you clip their wings, you are removing their primary way of escaping a predator or threat.

Question #3: Their eggs are small, takes 4 or 5 to equal 1 large chicken egg (Bobwhite eggs) Coturnix eggs take 3 to 4 to equal 1 chicken egg....other than that they are delicious.

Don't mean to sound abrupt but do research on quail, their requirements, nutritional needs, housing/enclosure requirements. Observe strict biosecurity protocols. Start small, after gaining a few years of experience, then you can decide if you want to continue or 'go hog wild' or not to continue raising quail.

Gamebirds in general, are more demanding than chickens....some more than others.
Do tons of research, ask questions before starting, (most of your questions can be found on this site, just do a search) will help emmensily in the long run.

You can't really mix quail with chickens due to diseases, a chicken can carry them and be unaffected but give them to quail and kill them. Quail also don't really understand they need to go back into their coop at night either, they aren't the brightest bless them.

I have seen information about being about to clip their wings to stop them from flying but if you're suggesting letting them free roam in a garden or something unfortunately they won't do too well there.. they need an enclosed space.

Quail eggs are so tasty, small but honestly delicious
