Questions!

Well of coarse I'm going to say buy eggs from those of us here on BYC...many of us have the breeds you listed Your not going to get quality birds hatching eggs from McMurray or any other hatchery if your looking for birds that meet the breed standard or supposed breed standard-Blue Lace are not an accepted color yet but we love ours anyway

Egg prices really depend on the quality of the parent stock..better you buy the more it will cost in cash but less time to a higher quality flock.
For instance on your list we have Black and Blue Barred Plymouth Rocks and BLRW-Foley bred so chances of hatching single combs are less than other breeders he's breeding that out of his line.We have several breeds you didn't list that are great layers and great birds to be around the list is long

For the site you referenced, I believe I saw $5 shipping....There is no shipping available that adequately protects eggs for $5....That might be some small box prepaid, with no room to pad or pack those, So either the place doesn't know prices or how to pack or is pricing the eggs to absorb the costs of shipping. I would certainly ask how eggs are packed and to see photos of this as well. USPS rates are also going up in 2011 considerably so again, really puzzled at that rate....It just struck me wrong...Best of luck...We also have Welsummers. Have a blessed CHristmas. Nancy

I think the $5 shipping price was added extra if you lived outside of the states they listed. The states they have listed get the shipping included in the price of the eggs. At least that is how I read it.

Well, that would make more sense!!!! ANyway, second to buy from BYC'ers. You have a feedback system here. You can see in the old and new system how folks shipped eggs, quality of birds, etc. etc. I just LOVE BYC! Have a blessed Christmas. Farmer Nancy

I, personally, think that I'd go with hatchery eggs at first, and then with the birds you hatch, you could hatch more eggs with those one and the ones that you get from your own hens.

Yeah, I have antually thinking a lot about doing that. I think that might just have to be my final choice. After all, It is my first clutch of chicks (that I've hatched, of course.)
