I know that ducks have an oil they spread on their body to keep them waterproof, and that their moms usually use their oil to spread on their ducklings so the ducklings can swim at a younger age. My question is how old should ducklings be before they start swimming?

I put mine on my bathtub at two weeks old. Tub was filled with warm water. As far as outside I suggest waiting till they have their juvenile feathers.

the main reason that they can't swim before they have there feathers in is because they will freeze.... so if you have warm water (or heat lamp for them when they are done) then they will be fine... once they have all they feathers in then they can go swim in cold water or whatever...
