Quick! Guinea fowl with head stuck in feeder, can't get out!

I went out to my barn about an hour ago and found a guinea with its head completely stuck in one of the chick feeders. I've tried everything to get him out, even slathering the feeder in Crisco to help ease him out to no avail. His neck is all scraped up and bloody from trying to escape and he appears to be very lethargic now. Any ideas?!

A photo to show what type of feeder would help. Is it a plastic feeder? if so cut it with a scissor. A metal feeder will be harder but it got it in so it can get it out. If the metal is thin you can cut it with a pair of pliers. Unfortunately your feeder will be broken but your bird will be saved. A photo would really help.

The feeder is metal, too thick to cut through. I tried pliers but I don't have enough room to wedge them in

Get pliers and try to cut from one of the feeding holes away from her(preferably the one next to where she is stuck in). Cut around the hole she is in and just cut the rest of the feeder off. That way you can get to her from one side and manage to push her head out. If the metal is too thick heat the pliers so they melt through it. Sorry about the vague description, I am terrible at explaining things. Good luck, I hope she gets out, guinea fowl are my favorite birds and it saddens me to see this.

Is it possible to get a screw driver and pry up the part where her head is stuck (ie the row of openings) so you can grab her head and push it out, instead of pulling?

You wouldn't happen to have some kind of saw or something to cut at it and pry the pieces away from her neck?

Poor girl :/

I'm going to keep stewing on this for ideas to get her out!

With a pinch and a twist/pull you should be able to rip the metal apart with a pair of side cutters...


If not a pair of good tin snips will take care of it...

I borrowed a pair of tin snips from the neighbor and she is free now thank god. Her neck looks awful though and I am worried it will be infected. How should I clean it or can I bandage it?

Thank goodness. Separate her from the others so they don't peck at her scrapes. Was her scrape with warm water and then flush it with hydrogen peroxide, iodine, or betadine. Apply antibiotic ointment to prevent infection
