I managed to make what I had left work this time around and now I have time to see if I can find a source for the same stuff brinsea uses!

Anybody else have MAJOR problems with the "rigid" tube from the outside of the tray to the water reservoir/blotting paper inside? I COULD NOT get it into those two holes. I had to take a drill bit, the kind for starting nails/screws, and VERY CAREFULLY make the holes larger to get the #)*#%@@!! tube through them. Until I did that, the tube kept collapsing on me. I was so freakin' frustrated I nearly went out to buy real cigarettes.

I would not recommend getting tubing from any other place but Brinsea. The Humidity pumps use a special SILICONE TUBING. It is specially made to bend and stretch when it goes around the rotator. If it is not silicone tubing from Brinsea, (they specifically make this for that machine) Then your rotor will not spin right and will burn out the humidity motor. It is not worth the extra $$ spent on the motor to just save a few $$ on the tubing.

I think your are being a little bit paranoid concerning the silicon tubing. If you use a long enough piece of the poly tubing, it should flex more than enought so as to not place a strain on the turner motor. If it has to "stretch", then go to the Pharmacy and purchase some surgical tubing. $2 will buy a bunch of surgical or poly tubing

Well you see. You most likely don't have the humidity pump. You can not use a 'LONG ENOUGH PIECE" You need to use a piece EXACTLY 5 1/4" to fit around the Rotor of the pump. If your piece is too big then it will not prime itself. If you are using the wrong kind of silcone tubing you will eventually burn out the motor if it does not stretch properly. But Thanks for the advice- all though not correct, It is always welcomed. I am just giveing my advice so that you will not have to deal with the headache.

You know, I called Brinsea, and got enough extra of everything to keep me for a few years to make it worth the shipping. I figure if I could afford the Brinsea in the first place (although I got mine used) I could afford the few dollars to make sure it worked correctly.

I have blotter paper (I'm also a fountain pen fanatic), and the stuff Brinsea sells is not the same at all as any of my blotter paper, and I've got plenty.

As for the tubing? It sure LOOKS like the IV tubing I use at work, but again, I ordered from Brinsea to be sure. I suppose if you're just hatching a few replacement chix, you might want to experiment, but it's not for me.

You are right, I dont have the Brinsea humidity pump, but I did go to Their website and saw the tubing they are selling. First, it is not $2 perft as someone suggested, it is $2 for a small roll, (doesnt say how many feet in that roll). More than enough for several of the 5 1/4 inches you say is needed. Second, it looks the same as the flexable poly tubing you can purchase at most hardware stores and very similar to the IV tubing another poster mentioned. With that said and this is just my opinion, I believe that that there is more than one option available for purchaseing tubeing that should work with the humidity pump. Now, if I did own a Brinsea humidity pump and could actually see how it is plumbed, I might form a different opinion on what could or couldnot be used. I would also take the peice of tubing I wished to replace to the hardware store to compare it to the other products available before i paid more for shipping than what the product actually cost. But thats just me.

Hmm. I can't check now, but I looked up the tubing needed for my model and it clearly said 'per foot'. They do have other tubing for other applications on the site, I believe. In either case, I'll probably just stick with theirs unless I find a direct replacement. IV tubing from work does not appear to be similar, at least here.

I just go the brinsea 20 advanced ex with pump. I have some issues with the recommended 16 eggs at a time. I called brinsea and they said if the moisture wick touches the eggs, they'll go bad. But the middle rows all almost touch the wick. The recommended laying the middle eggs flat but I'm concerned they won't turn properly flat. If I don't use the foam padding will the plop out?
Would love input from someone who has the 20 with the pump. They stated the 40 is different without these issues
Thank you
