If you only knew how much I've spent at Home Depot on my coop over the past year you'd REALLY thank me!

The bucket idea is great! I will make one and I am sure it would be great for keeping the feed dry when it rains also. I have Hutches, they are to small to hang anything inside. My feeders hang in the pen from Shepard style plant hook's. I can move them around the pen if needed. I started putting a tray from one of my cages under it to catch the feed they throw out. We had a down pour during the night. all the feed got wet. I had about 3 scoops of crumbles in the feeders ( I have 2 ) Had to dump, smelled like sour mash

 If I make a bucket to set some type feeder in side. That would solve my problem. I was trying to make some type out of a milk jug and it is not working. Thank you for the help and the great idea.

that is awesome!!! Thats why I love this site...the ideas from everyone...keeps the water alot cleaner from dirt also...so in my case if we had another ugly hurricane like last year...I could put this in the coop and there would be no mess....

good idea..

I see you have a handle on the 5 gal pail.. If you hang the water that might discourage the chickens from sitting on top of it/

and then you could adjust the height as the chickens grow..

and to the person who's chickens don't like it.. just leave it in with them,, when they get thirsty, they will like it well enough..

Just wanted to say "Thank You!" and that I appreciate you letting the rest of us in on this innovative and quite practicle, useful tool.

Shucks, even I can make that and I can already see how I can make good use of it. Should work much better than the feed trays I have now with much less waste.

BYC is such a great site and it's folks like you with a willingness to help others that make it so.

God Bless,

Little monkeys. Our hanging feeders/waterers get swung on like little kids in a playground. But I wonder if I built in little windows somehow to their new coop design, so they can just stick their heads into little windows for a drink or a snack................without riding on the contraption...........and give them a swing to play on BESIDES the feeders/waterers................

I am glad this thread got revived!
My girls insist on perching on the narrow edge of a partition in the coop and thus at least 1 of 5 butts overhangs the waterbowl overnight and...guess what?

I can easily rig up a bucket to enclose the bowl and it will certainly be a heckuva lot easier cleaning poop off the bucket lid than from the bowl itself.

Go, BYCers!!!!

I love the DIY ideas - Thanks so much for all the helpful advice - We just cleaned out the girls' coop today so it would be nice if their water was as clean as their coop!
