Quiet breeds for neighborhood backyard

There is a definite temperament difference between EE's and Ameraucanas!
As Michael said Brahmas are awesome birds.  Even my hatchery stock are big babies, and besides the occasional grumble they are pretty quiet, even my roo is not crowing crazy like some breeds!

What are the temperament differences you mention?

Are brahmas good layers? I'm usually not into feathered feet.

EEs (depending on the cross in them) sometimes tend to be less friendly (more standoffish or skittish) than Ameraucanas. Brahmas are good layers (3, sometimes 4 eggs per hen per week). They won't match the lay rate of sex links or Australorps, but in my 50 years of experience, they are about the same as Orpingtons, Rocks, Wyandottes, Sussex, etc.
