Quiet breeds for urban coop

Of all my breeds my barred rock and red sexlink was/is the quietest. my 2 orpintons talk.... A LOT. My mutts (Spintz, Olive Egger, Wyandotte mix) are the loudest. They "sing" when they think they want to lay an egg, the "sing" when they start walking to the nesting box, they "sing" when they realize someone is in their favorite box and they REALLLLY "sing" when they lay and egg. Then they "sing" when they feel like in between all that. I am surprised my neighbor hasn't come to yell at me yet.

Honestly, I think it just depends on their personality. My friend got a mix of orpington, wyandotte, brahma and wyandotte because she was told they were the quietest and they are even louder than mine. She must have gotten the talkers of the pack LOL.

My B.O.'s are soooo terribly noisy, one of them crows... lol. They squawk till I let them out of the coop, then squawk to get let out of the run, they squawk for treats, they come up on my lanai and squawk or crow till I come out or spray them... terrible!!! But I do looove them<3. And they require lots of room. A 4x12 run sounds small... wait, how many are you getting? My Americana and Bantam/Cinnamon are the quietest ones and a space savers.
I want @Brahmachicken240 to send me some of his beautiful and quiet birds:love

Off sides here, but isn't it amazing how people will complain about a hen clucking but never seem to say anything about the raucous squawking of blue jays, ravens or crows?
Or non stop barking dogs? How about party neighbors or mechanics... or cars w/o mufflers?!! Ugh! Animal sounds are awesome. Except for dogs that bark non stop.

I've had Orpingtons, Wyandottes, EEs, RIRs & Australorps ... I'm thinking some breeds are quieter but it's all an individual thing. Orpingtons & Wyandottes are my favorite, mainly the puffy'fluffy butts :) The above breeds, not all did the egg song, some never did but will admit when/if the Orpingtons sang it was LOUD! They still are my favorite because of their fluffiness & docile personality.

I think the noise level will depend on the individual hens. I have Faverolles and they have very different personalities. Some are quiet, some just chatty and one gets loud. I don't think you will know until you have them for a while. BUT, if you find them too loud for your settings, I don't think you would have much of a problem rehoming hens. Roosters, of course, are a different story.

Ain't it the truth!

My neighbor who's asked me to quiet my rooster has teens who are non-stop the entire Summer with loud music and partying. I mean All. Day. And. All. Night. But I have to say he was nice enough about it (as a former chicken keeper himself) and the teens are, at least, not waking us up at 5:30am.

Buff Orpingtons, Brahmas, Speckled Sussex, Wyandottes, Australorps, Cochins, Barred Rock, Ameraucanas, and Rhode Island Reds are all quiet breeds.

I breed brahmas and I have a few Buff Orpingtons, they’re very quiet, very friendly and docile. Both breeds are Gentle giants. :)

Here’s a few pics of mine

Is your gorgeous too quiet? I’ve had a couple people recommend Wyandottes or a Barnvelders

Do they do well in heat?

Hi there! As you may have guessed from the title I'm wondering about quiet breeds. I've been doing a lot of research on here and elsewhere and have sort of an idea of what to order(I'm ordering from Meyer), but I'm still unsure.

I live in a small town, it's not rural but it's sort of a supply hub for the surrounding farms/rural homes. As such the only real restriction on chickens(or just livestock in general) is a noise one. I'm of course not even going to bother with roosters. Even with pretty lenient policies I'm worried about noise, I have neighbors very close and want to be polite. I know each chicken is different, but I'm looking for mainly egg laying breed suggestions.

For a starting point I was considering mix of Easter Eggers, Austra Whites, and Golden Buffs or Buff Orpingtons....also I really don't like the look of Silkies(I know, I seem to be an oddity on here) so those were out.

My coop plans are 4X6 with a 4X12 run and the ability to let them out when I'm outside.

Any help would be appreciated. Having chickens is something I've wanted since I was little and I just want to get it right.
I live in a similar situation, I live in town with rural surroundings, neighbors, & city ordinances, the best and/or worst of both worlds.
I finally got my first & only chickens about 6 months ago. I have found my two silver-laced Wyandottes to be very quiet overall. Actually, they are their loudest when they see or hear me & I'm sure it has nothing to do with food lol. I find them to be way less noisy than the dogs in my neighborhood, my own included, and no louder than the usual neighborhood sounds of cars, kids & dogs. I'm a newbie, though, so maybe a larger flock would be different.
