Quiet/docile Long Term Layers

Just for the record, I had a sex link that was 9 and still laid rarely her last year. But she did make a lot of noise when she talked
You probably got one from a good strain. Most red sex links around me die naturally after around two years, so not very healthy. They are pretty noisy too. You just lucked out with your chickens I suppose.

Isa browns are different then red sexlinks, don’t worry. The ones around me are from production strains so health problems are a given.
Oh, hallelujah! Mine were from Hoover's Hatchery. They are probably my favorite breed, and I love them so much. They lay the darkest brown eggs of my flock (the other brown-egg layers are RIRs and BRs) and they are so sweet.

So.....as a bubble burster.....

All chicken make noise. The roosters crow...some more than others but ALL crow.
Hens sing an egg song when they lay and will set to yelling about anything that upsets them at all.
The egg song is anything BUT quiet. It is quite loud and some hens will join in the celebration making even more noise.

If you have chickens and neighbors rest assured.....they know.

Bantams can be a bit quieter because they have smaller voice boxes so they kinda are restrained by their own bodies.
