Quotes and Thoughts for the Day

Since this is your best friend, yes, there is a rewind button. Just call her up and tell her that her comment was not only untrue but a little hurtful, and it made you uncomfortable enough that you resorted to socially accepted excuses instead of being truthful with her. Then simply tell her that while some people prefer to put on the face that they (or others) find most attractive, you are comfortable enough with yourself to display the face that nature gave you, no apologies or excuses needed! As your best friend, you expect her to accept the differences between you without judgment, just as you do for her. Then tell her that the word "lazy" is insulting to a farmer, and ask her to come out to your farm some weekend and work her little makeup-applying fingers to the bone. She won't use the word "lazy" around you again.

People treat us the way we allow them to treat us. Even best friends (and husbands) need some guidance as to where the boundaries are sometimes. It's always better to be truthful than to be frustrated, even if you have to revisit the event.

And I agree with the makeup issue. I buy some about every 10 years, then have to throw it away when it turns to an unusable blob. I've had a few clients and co-workers ask me about it, and I'm really upfront about it. I just hate the stuff. Don't even wear it on job interviews. I prefer to shine in other ways!!
You are 100% right. It's such a small issue, but at the same time it's almost a little bit bigger than that because there's more to it than just make up. I did feel insulted by my friend, but now I'm feeling a lot of relief for just admitting I'm not into it. And from the looks of this thread I'm not alone :)
I haven't worn make-up since my early 20's and I'm in my 30's now. My DH prefers me unpainted, which is just as well, because I prefer to walk around without war paint on. I find make-up uncomfortable, personally. As long as you are clean, neat and well groomed, who cares what you do on top of that?
I love that you referred to it as war paint. I have to incorporate this in my vocabulary haha

The make up issue came up this past month while DH & I were cleaning out my mother's house to sell (Mom didn't pack anything, left it up to us so we had what fun we could). In addition to the rest of the house, we emptied out her bathroom vanity and drawers. She had a large trash bag of powders, foundations, skin lotions, eye shadows, etc., plus 68 (you read that right...68) bottles of half-used nail polish. After emptying my 85-year old mother's bathroom, DH said he was so glad I wasn't into all that because it was a huge waste of time and money. Gee, I love that guy!

Actually I do use make up...it's limited to chapstick and hand lotion. My mother would be horrified.

Good luck with a speedy recovery.

Thanks and loved your quotes yesterday, especially the last one.

Well said and solid advice

Welcome Back COChix.  :hugs

Time to sit back and let someone else work for the flock (we are their slaves, don't you know).  Hope everything heals perfectly.

Thanks

I did go out with my BF this am to check the new feeders to assess if the flock is using. Glad to report there is a nice divet in the top of the buckets, so they are using it. :D My BF was impressed and relived at the ease of the chicken chores with the horizontal nipple waterers and the no waste bucket feeders.

:highfive:

 - too all my non make-up sisters, I too am apart of that club!

Think of all the chickens you could buy if you saved the money from the nail polish

It just feels so fresh and free to be without. I can see the appeal to some it's just not something I possess. It's the "lazy" in me hahaha

I could have written this myself. So x2
