The single greatest lesson the garden teaches is that our relationship to the planet need not be zero-sum, and that as long as the sun still shines and people still can plan and plant, think and do, we can, if we bother to try, find ways to provide for ourselves without diminishing the world.
Michael Pollan, The Omnivore's Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals
I want this sign for to post next to the "pass with care" sign by my mailbox. For pete's sake don't be in such an all fired hurry whenever you see a tractor, they have to get to work too.
Me too! I shared that quote today, because I liked it and I'm thrilled to find such like-minded company. I'm enjoying these agri and farm themed quotes and memories.
I got thinking about this book (which everyone, IMO, should read): http://www.kingsolver.com/books/animal-vegetable-miracle.html
If ever you need an eye opening reminder how dependant we've become on supermarkets and shops and farmers for food...
Sorry, not trying to preach at all. I'm a libertarian through & through...people are free to do whatever they want if it doesn't hurt me/mine or impose on someone else's liberty. And I have never agreed with imprisoning someone for years for a non-violent crime. I'm just saying that making weed legal is being done purely for profit driven reasons.
It's all good TriciaI just meant that there is a lot of money that a lot of states could benefit from due to the Marijuana industry. Trust me you wouldn't believe the amount of money that is being thrown around in Colorado from all sorts of people trying to hit it big. It is big business, no joke. I didn't mean you were preaching like that, just merely agreeing in a round about way about the money aspects.
It's all good TriciaI've been going to CO since my parents bought a house there 40+ years ago (yeah, I'm old, lol). Never have I seen so many changes since just the past year or so. Mom sold her house this past week and there were buyers out the door, some with cash in hand. Her realtor told us that Denver used to typically have 35,000-40,000 homes on the market at any given time...now there are only about 5,000 homes to be bought. I remember driving by a tiny hole-in-the-wall head shop on the way to their house. In January this same little place now has several stores, 2 story's, neon signs, the works. In some ways, legalization has been a boon to the economy but if people are thinking this was done for their benefit, I don't buy it. If the populace can be kept high & happy, who knows where it will lead? It's all about the money, not the welfare of the people. Off soap box now. You & I are good. I just get excited sometimes. Remember this?
