"Oookay, Coldshard, no cat's saying you aren't loyal." Heronpaw meowed, "The warrior code is important, I know that as well as anyone, and you can trust that I'll keep following it back home. But when a cat seems friendly at first and their mood changes so quickly, it's just strange."
Coldshard nodded. He was just not going to argue with her. She was a young she cat who didn't need those problems, only Sparrowpaw did, cause she was late.
"Of course I know the answer, I'm asking you." Cougarpounce said in his deep, handsome mew, for ounce he wasn't wearing his usual mask of reserve, he was himself, calm and clever, determined not to let his apprentice down, even if Beetlepaw did notice the change. "It is not the mouse that's fast, it's you that's slow. You need to trust your instincts, don't just just go, think. Keep your legs tight beneath you and make every paw step knowing where it's going to land. Then balance your weight in a way that will allow you to land evenly on your prey." He finished.
"Ok," Beetlepaw said.

"Yes," said Coldshard. "I expect we all follow the code when we get back, no matter how different it is now. And I expect a cat from Mapleclan would know how to follow the code? Just because in ForestClan we are a little rough on the edges, doesn't mean we don't follow the code."
He twitched his tail as he thought on the other hand Splashclan wasn't following it so well, but he didn't think this detail was important to pointing out the truth to Crowpaw.
Thunderwave had come up beside Coldshard. "I know how you must feel towards Splashclan, and I don't blame you. After everything you've suffered and here we are living on as rude and proud as ever, but not every cat in the clan is like that, and those who are, are well, sad and unhappy, empty inside and trying to find a way to fill that void. So, in a way, our clan is suffering, from a different disease, one that you can't see, but is still there, and I think in time, Starclan will light the path for Heronpaw and I to heal that wound. But I'm behind you all the way, Coldshard, I trust the judgement of Starclan and they chose you." He mewed with calm confidence.

*Deerkit notices her mother coughing*
For once in her life, she felt a pang of sadness. Almost immediately she shook it off. Don't let those feelings weaken you. she urged herself. I don't need anyone! She told herself. Although, deep inside a nagging feeling tugged at her.

If he knew it, Coldshard would have said Forestclan was suffering in that way too. But he was so locked up inside himself. Or neglected himself and always living outside, watching himself as another cat, that he never noticed the things going on around him. It was a forced sense of normalness. The darkness of the forest had always been there, but it didn't have to seep into their hearts. Maybe he did know this, but he didn't want to admit it.
"I don't need you to help me, nor do you need to waste your time on me. And Heronpaw is just an apprentice, why would you put this on her shoulders?"
But he did warm up to the idea of them caring, whether or not he would admit it, though he thought Thunderwave was awfully perfect. Way too perfect for a Splashclan cat, and handsome. Most were wiry with their face covered in a fine crop of scars, much like his own.

Heronpaw huffed and remained quiet.

She was also very happy to have such a perfect, handsome Clanmate.

Thunderwave responded, "I respect your opinion, but Heronpaw is not just an ordinary apprentice, she is a medicine cat apprentice, knowing and understanding things warriors never could, just as every other cat here was summoned for a purpose, I believe she was. And I also trust her to understand that prophecies are never easy, and there is always a weight to be carried. I think that's why Starclan chose not just one cat from each clan, but two, because although others will be there to help you, only a clanmate can truly understand what your fighting through to reach the purpose."

Magpiekit dashes to her mothers side, "Whirlfur? Do you need me to go to the medicine cat den and ask for herbs?" She mewed worriedly.

"Fine," Coldshard snapped. "I can see your favorite hobby is arguing. Can we start now?"

"Yup, thanks for reminding me there is no other Forestclan cat. I feel so touched," said Coldshard.

"No, no problem at all," Whirlfur said. "No reason to be worried."
