Apparently it was complications from surgery--at his age it could have been most anything. I suspect that, sooner or later, we'll find out. At least he went out with all his faculties, it would have been tough if he developed dementia.

This will sound a bit odd, but in all the years of watching him, one time I noticed his desk. I'm an avid woodworker and had worked with alot of claro walnut from northernm California and elsewhere for gunstocks and cabinets. I was sure that his desk had been built with a gorgeous slab of claro walnut, not just a piece of walnut plywood. I always wanted to write him and ask if it was.

I;m here in France so I cannot see the tribute they must have planned for tonight, so maybe someone will see the top of his desk and notice the beautiful wood.

Goodbye Andy

Pete

Oh yes, he did have a beautiful desk! Wonder what will happen to his typewriter and desk? Would they donate it to the Smithsonian or museum? After all, he did contribute alot of the quirkness we adored!
