Rabbit feed for chickens to suplement greens ....is it ok?

My rabbits are in hanging cages over part of the chicken area. So, the chickens eat whatever they drop and will also go through there waste to find any undigested grains (is my guess). I know they keep it pretty well stirred, so I rarely have any odor from the rabbits. It is a good system for me and works well for the ladies. I also, toss them left overs of many kinds. They seem to like my cooking.

I give mine flakes of alfalfa, but I already have for the horses.
Depends on them if they eat it, but they do eat most all of the leaf part of it,
because there is only the stems left in the area the flakes are dropped.

I'm using the 50# bags of cubed alfalfa for horses. I soak four or five cubes in hot water ( much faster than cold!) and they eat it right up, but I have to tell ya, it did take several tries before they became interested, and then ONE hen pecked it, followed by another...they were highly skeptical at first. Now they love the stuff. Give it more than one chance.

This may sound strange, but I grow wheat grass in a cold frame for chickens. It's only 3 square ft. but it's more then we can juice so the girls get some.

That doesnst sound odd at all! We do lots of silly stuff for our chickens! Mine "discovered" that when I bang on the rabbit feed hoppers the fines fall through. There is a small group of them that always follow me to the cages to get them. I think I will try soaking some pellets for them to eat in the coop. They might start to miss it after the snow flies! Great idea! T
