Rabbit questions

I am so excited to get him now! I am going to pick him up tomorrow, a whopping 3 hour round trip drive to pick the little guy up! He is so spoiled already, I will take photos right when we get him home!

Whatever breed you choose, make sure you get it at 8 weeks of age and keep it with you as much as possible. Contrary to what has been posted here, rabbits are solitary animals. In order for ANY breed to friendly they need a lot of human interaction at an early age. Does are often "pistols" where bucks are calmer. And if you even suspect you may want another, get it now. Introducing a new bun to one established in the household is NOT going to go well.

<------------- French Angora breeder.

PS - I had two lionhead bucks in one cage and most of the time they got along. However, when they did fight, it was epic.

Pellets have been mentioned. Please buy the show rabbit pellets and NOT alfalfa pellets. Alfalfa is hard on their digestive systems, and never feed them alfalfa hay. Timothy hay, papaya, broccoli are all helpful in aiding digestion.

I agree with Deb, except that not all pellets that are not show pellets are bad. You just need to check ingredients.

I'm just going to say that I have a mean biter female Netherland Dwarf. I caught 2 adult does (NZ crosses) in my skunk trap, and they are all together 24/7 and get along great. Having them together can work out.
Also, with the food, I used to buy rabbit pellets at a pet store etc a 20 pound bag for around $15. Never clued in that I could buy rabbit pellets at the feed store where I get chicken feed, 50 pounds for $12!! Just thought it was worth mentioning, saves a lot.

and Mrs. feathers is it that he was neutered? bc ours is NOT clean! If only we didn't use him to breed... *sigh* oh well he is kept in our barn. but as soon as he has bred a few times, we are so gonna take him to our neighbor to get a jimmy reinolds special

thatll do the job!!

LOL, I have no idea if it is because he is neutered. He has a "unique" personality so maybe it is just part of his make up. We have a lovely outdoor run for him with trees and lots of tunnel areas under roots but he hates to go out there. My DH figures he doesn't like to get his feet dirty.

Yes...as squawkbox said getting pellets at the feed store is much more economical. You also have to watch some of the "petstore" brands for sugar and salt content.
I wish my guy would eat papaya as it is so good for them. I find that banana is also good for the digestion and my bunny loves it and brocolli although we think the brocolli makes his pee smelly

we live with it because it is good for him (brocolli that is not smelly pee).

Thank you everyone I keep learning new things all of the time for him! I went and picked him up this morning, he is VERY cute and loving, I sat with him on the couch today for a good thirty minutes while he slept on my chest, he is 8 weeks old tomorrow. She gave me some timothy hay, and pellets for him until I can decide what to give him, I also gave him a carrot this afternoon, he loved it, but are they okay for him? Also with a water what does everyone recommened? I got one that hangs from the side, but it happens to leak, so i'm not sure if there is a solution for that!

Here is a photo of him!

Aw he is so cute!
LOL is a carrot good for rabbits?? Yes! They love them.
In regards to the water, a dish is fine or a bottle, whatever they will use.
Have fun with him

Carrots are like candy to rabbits. They're fine in moderation, but I definitely wouldn't feed them every day! A baby carrot or a small slice as a treat is fine, but don't give them a whole carrot, or they might get sick!
