Rabbit thread!!!

Hey guys so I got this rabbit today, totally love him named him Leo, anyways he is odiously very overweight. He is fat plain and simple. One of the main things I suspect for sure is the food they sent me with him I I think just has so much to it plus they let him eat a whole bunch anyways any suggestions to keep his weight down? Oh by the way he is neutered which I know can affect weight in dogs.. But I plan on feeding him a regular diet with outdoor excersize every day. Is that
400
enough?

is the amount of food in his bowl how much pellets you give him? if so, you should either severly limit his intake )only a few tablespoons a day) or completly take it away. rabbit's don't need pellets, just feed him free choice hay and the right portion of veggies for his size, not weight. LOL. Rabbits don't need free choice on anything exept hay. good luck!

Those pictures were actually from the ad that I got him from so that's how much they were feeding him

Your Leo is a Mini Rex. Mini Rex breeders can tell you, they are PIGS! The worst thing you can do is to free-feed a Mini Rex. While it's hard to over-feed a rabbit on grass hay, you might not be meeting all of his nutritional needs, either, so most people feed some pellets. A rabbit should get about one ounce of a balanced pelleted feed per pound of healthy body weight per day - for a Mini Rex, that's about 4 ounces or 1/2 cup of pellets per day. A lot of Mini Rex will snarf that up in a relatively short time, and spend the rest of the day trying to convince you that they are starving . . . . dude, eat your hay if you're so hungry!

I just had to add to this thread because bunnies are so cute!!

This was my bunny Muffin, unfortunately she died a few months ago, I put her outside in a cage to get some fresh air and eat some grass. I left for work and my boyfriend was still home, he went outside to see what the dogs were barking at, and they had jumped on top of her cage and tore it up enough that she got out and they killed her :( RIP my sweet Muffin!!

This was her cage in my room. She lived the good life, fo sho!

My step mother had Muffin's brother (We named him Waffles) and she gave him to me shortly before Muffin died (she is a bit of an animal hoarder, and by animal hoarder I mean like on TLC Hoarders show level of hoarding. I mean I have a lot of animals, but I take care of all of mine and they are healthy, hers not so much and my dad wanted the rabbit gone so he told me I could have the rabbit cages if i took the other rabbit, and I really wanted the cages lol) . I don't think I have a pic of him other than this baby pic. But he lives in my living room!! He will NOT be going outside unless those *#%&$ dogs are TIED UP!!

Little baby Waffles!

aww, your rabbit had a very large cage! she sounds like she was loved, it's nice to find a person who has indoor pet rabbits instead of breeding meat rabbits. what a pretty bunny. My first rabbit got killed by a dog too after he got out of his cage where she was enjoying the sunshine.... only I left the gate unlocked. that was over a year ago and I still feel bad. My current bun, willow, is a srictly indoor rabbit now unless in a cage with supervision!
My friend has a mini rex, and he is a big pig!!!!!! he makes willow look like a very picky rabbit. (ok, she is really picky. I am actually a little worried about her weight)

You know I suspected he was a mini Rex I just assumed he was a mix but he definitely had the coat. And last night I fed him some pellets and the little booger is like a vaccume! So I have him free choice on some hay that like you said he will mostly ignore and I'll only let him eat pellets if he does it out of my hand. But on another note I took him outside in an enclose today and he acted like he had never been outside before! I know he was a house rabbit but man
