Does this work??
My Phoenix's kepp getting thier tails in the water.
I stole my rabbits one to try it and it seemed like it would work.

Any other suggestions??

i use a rabbit water bottle to feed all of my silkies
for the first few days keep another source of water in with them until you are sure each chicken is using it.good luck

i got fed up with the messes from the quart jar waterers in my brooders so when I got guineas, I got a rabbit bottle. They've used it since the very first day with no problems.

I am SO going to try this!! I hate lugging the water container out of the coop to clean; it is impossible to move without somehow getting some of the water sloshed about.

sounds like a plan!!

Do you think thier beaks are too little at a month and a half?
I suppose they would freeze in the winter but what doesn't?

Thanx

What a co-inky-dink! I bought a dog water bottle (like a rabbit bottle but with a fatter drip tube) last weekend and I asked the feed store lady if she thought chickens would use it. Her answer was "I don't know - chickens are pretty stupid."

So I installed it today and within 5 minutes of showing the girls where the drip was coming from, they were all happily pecking away like it was a great new game. I also have a plumbed-in waterer but this is a backup since we're going on a short vacation and I want to make sure they have water no matter what.

Anyone else out there use a rabbit/hamster/gerbil type water bottle? I'm thinking of trying it. I haven't searched to see how big of one I could get but it sure would be nice to: A) hang it outside of their coop to give them more space, and B) not have them getting the dang water dirty.

Heck, if they don't sell big bottles (we only have 3 chicks) then perhaps I could hang several so that they would be able to go longer without needing attention.

Any thoughts, ideas, experience relevant to these water bottles and chickens is GREATLY appreciated.

My chicks took to one of those waterers immediately. They lived in a large cockatiel cage for their first few weeks and that was the waterer we had- the type that clips on the side of the cage and has a hollow tube tipped with a metal ball. Very easy to keep clean!
