I think a separate cooking thread would be a good idea, anyone looking for recipes/ideas would more easily find them if they aren't interspersed with photos and discussions about rabbit care. The "any home bakers" thread also has an index to the submitted recipes, so that could be done (if anybody wants to do it) on a separate thread.

A few discussions won't turn the whole thread into a concentration. "Rabbits" thread should be for all topics involving rabbits. If someone wants to strictly talk about meat or just rabbits as pets they should make their own page.

Quote: Yeah, but look at the poll at the top of the page . . . . I don't really think the OP meant this thread to be a recipe exchange.

That's my point. Regular people who don't raise/keep rabbits but who want to cook them won't be searching a thread about rabbits for recipes and they won't be looking through 50 pages in the hope of finding one. In any case, there's already a recipe thread, so the question is moot.

well just ate my first rabbit and the vote is in, i plan on raising them. (i hope i can convince the family now)

but what breeds to you guys recommend? the new Zealand white? (i have read story's guide to raising rabbits) or what is a good breed to raise?

thanks just a novice here who plans on trying to raise rabbits.

I think I would start by finding out what breeds are available in your area, then research each one for the characteristics you want. Many different breeds can be raised for meat.

@dan26552 Lots of different types then!, haha. I have 11 Holland Lops right now, with two babies in the next box and hopefully 3 does due the first week of April. I breed for show though, not meat.

Just to let anyone who is near and interested know. NCRBA is holding their annual ARBA sanctioned rabbit show this Saturday and Sunday (3/18-19) in Greensboro, NC at the coliseum complex. They'll have a double open, double youth show on both Saturday and Sunday. With lots and lots of specialty shows and two national shows I believe. More info would be on the ARBA website. Note - this is an ARBA show, so it would be for purebred show rabbits

Not saying this show be strictly either, but that people should be allowed to discuss if they wish to.
