Rabid Duck????

Wow. I found a dead pigeon in the backyard about a month ago and I thought the cat had been back there. It never crossed my mind that the ducks may have killed it.

Is it just scovies that eat mice, birds, etc.? I know a number of chicken breeds love mice and such, didn't know if that applied to some breeds of ducks or not.

Don't you just love fluffy little dinosaurs?

I had a khaki hen that used to chase squirrels. I miss her.

When I read that post, I laughed out loud. Getting ducks has been a real eye opener, after reading this thread, then when first learning about how nasty they can be when mating, and watching my now gone drake, attacking my other drake........they are certainly different than what I thought about ducks 6 months ago!
I still think they are the cutest, most entertaining birds out there and I am addicted to them now!

WOW! That's a new one on me...I feed my Call ducks minnows and I always figured they would eat tiny crawdads and frogs, but if I find any mice in the water pan I'll be sure to wonder if they drowned themselves or had "help"...

You lucked out. My muscovy turned out to be a dud. He would only eat chicken feed and PBJ sandwiches.

Needless to say we sold him.

Wow, this is an eye opener thread for me..... My Q gets along with everyone in the house, except the parrots. The last time I allowed her in the bird room she attacked my sun conure. I was there to intervene and nobody was hurt ('cept for poor Marvin's pride) but I was shocked at how my sweet little Q girl turned suddenly evil at the sight of the little bird.

Also, she will get this wiley look in her eye when she sees I have my bearded dragon out, and I think if she had a chance she might go after him. I think if ducks could drool, she would at the sight of him. lol

One time I saw a male mallard kill a duckling because he got in the way of his trying to mate.

Beneath that cute exterior are ruthless omnivores that want to spread their genes. If you only have a handful of ducks or otherwise limited experience with these animals you may never really see just how cruel they can be.

The solution I employ is to give them lots of space, so that the losers have a place to run away to. As long as I have lots of space, I don't need to debeak.

This is an eye opener for me too. I had no idea that they would go after things that big...actual if I would have put two and two together I am sure I would have figured it out.
