I just wondered...because as I said my Great Aunt had raccoons not 50 feet from a large chicken operation...and no ill came of it...possibly because they were fat and happy and getting their tummies scratched...it took all the chicken aggression right out of them perhaps....

Are you sure about it being a sheet of "plywood"?

It looks like "particle board" -- which I would not use because of this reason.
One wet/soft/rot spot and there's an easy hole.

Or is all that mess just splintered edges? Hard to tell from the photo.

Edit: ... such a mystery. Look again for hair, maybe with a flashlight & magnifying glass - there is always hair left at the crime scene!
