Raccoon Busted Stealing Feed

Images below depicting perimeter hotwire setup that normally works so well. Will be cleaning it up with mower and replacing post and insulators as needed to tighten wire. Fence hot but a gap problem shown in last image.

East boundary towards house with 6 cock / stag pens up next to fence. They are supposed to serve as trap crop for critters that come in from fenn.

North boundary with cane break blocking north wind. This will be expanded over time to keep nosy neighbors out an provide juveniles with hawk protection. Kids love to play in the stuff as provides excellent hiding places.

The gap. Wires I twisted to keep tight above ground, day before storm last week. From above it is easy to see trackway raccoons use to go under fence.

Off topic but what plants did you use in your cane break? They look nice and might be a good addition to an area along my fence, also something to hide the neighbor's really ugly dog pen.

The bamboo used is an exotic. I do not know actual species or hybrid. A real pain in the butt keeping canebreaks formed in location desired. Tallest pushing 20' and my brother says his gets to 35' tall.

I suggest you look at the native species. It may require a little soil amending and possibly irrigation at first but it is also easier to control.

Keep it away from the fence. It can send stolons at least 20' horizontally. You want to avoid having to go that far into neighbors property to kill it. I am having that problem now and working to train break back away from property boundary. Will take years to get desired result.

City lot so definitely the spreading would not work for me. I almost planted them last year and didn't for that reason. We have enough unwanted things growing that we battle coming in from e park behind us. ;) I have to haul the weed eater and hedge trimmer out today instead of working on my coop to get some of it controlled. Lots of breaks with stirring up the pollen etc.

A friend and his son came out and set three additional dog proof traps with a special suite of attractants. They also used a device that helped them arm traps much more easily than I could. I had to squeeze with my hands while they had a device allowing them to use their weight.

Number 4.

I think this is the last of the group that was coming in targeting feed and BOSS.

I was instructed to leave opening in fence. The opening will now be closed. Several fence post with the built in insulators will now be replaced. Appears they last only 4 years.

This one an adult sow that is lactating. She weighs at best 10 lbs and barely bigger than female subadult caught a few days ago. Two adult lactating sows removed means likely two litters of kits out there that are not yet old enough to leave den. Hopefully they will come a cross a kid like I was that will tend to them and get them on their own by fall.

Setup needs to be upgraded on the repelling end in a big way.

Why would a lactating sow be targeting BOSS over everything else? She was underweight. Possibly looking for energy first?
