Raccoon repellent?

The only effective repellent I've ever found is a dog. I had a Walker Hound that was an excellent repellent. Unfortunately, the neighbors didn't appreciate her alarm. She was nicknamed "Baskerville" for a reason.

I say a trap is best.Anything smelly will not bother them. They root around in the garbage afterall! Trap and then you decide what to do with it.

Post on craigs for a free or low cost trap. When I trapped cats long ago I got a trap from AC with a $50 deposit that I got back when I returned the trap. Ask neighbors too. Many had traps. I never had coon attack but having 10+ creeping around my yard leaving piles of roundworm infested poo was enough to motivate me.

I like the home depot 1089 trap for $46. Put the word out and maybe someone will get it for you for the holidays

you might think your coop is secure......... took em 2 1/2 years but they finally broke into the fortess and killed my entire flock...... they are vermon.... i have had a trap set for months, got a few but now they have become trap smart and won't go near it........ i would advise setting traps, buying guns, getting dogs and re-enforcing the coop....... O.K. i'm getting carried away.... do whatever it takes to get rid of them asap..... they will not give up....

I'm probably overreacting. The coop itself is secure, and everyone is locked down tight at night. However, the run is not. But frankly, I just don't feel comfortable having a coon or anything else walking the fence every night, testing my defenses.

I have used fur to finace christmas since I was 10 yo good luck on getting rid of the preds

What kind of fur and who do you sell it to?

You really need to do something NOW. Those buggers will find a way into you coop even though you think it is a fortress. They will keep trying and keep trying and eventually they will find a way in. I thought my coop was a fortress too and they found the one small chink in my fortress and I lost four of my beloved bantams and I only had six. We had to shoot the raccoons.

You must know someone who has a gun. Offer to feed him dinner and since it gets dark so soon both he and the raccoon will be there at the same time!

I'm trying to borrow a trap from someone here in the neighborhood. I can borrow a gun once it's trapped. Our county's animal control is run by the local animal shelter, and they have ZERO wildlife services...no traps.

Quick update...went to TSC yesterday, and bought their little 2 pack for 35 bucks or so. Set the big one with sardines last night and woke up to a trapped coon. My neighbor is training his hunting dogs with coons and he took it about 10 miles away and after the dog has its way with it for a bit, he'll shoot it. I'll be leaving the trap set for now on at night.

Thanks for the help!
