Raccoon visiting to steal feed

I tried scaring them off every night from my pheasant pen. A few days later they ate my $600 pheasants. After that we shot 26 in 3 weeks. The put up a 13,000 volt 3 strand hot wire.

Yikes! I'd be worried my birds would get shocked by that.

I had a coon coming into the guinea hen coop every night to steal their food. I never close the door to that coop, I probably should but with the roosts over 7' high, it doesn't seem like there is much that can get to them. Anyway, I started to make sure to empty the feeder at night. After 3 days of that, the coon stole the entire 5 gallon bucket w/ lid that I had the feed in - it was about 1/3 full. Never did find that bucket and lid...

Hah. What a spiteful little pest! Ours is a 5 gallon bucket so I doubt he could make off with it. He's not getting in the run anyways. I almost hope he does so i can trap him there.

if your trapping them duke dog proof coon traps are awesome. (to warn though they can and will catch skunks) (have yet to deal with any other dog proof coon traps)

This is just a tsc live animal trap. Not sure the brand. Any advice to the type of dish to put in there with food?

Update: couldnt find one so I just opened a can of cat food and emptied it into a bowl. The wet food is usually a treat for her so she's very excited. Washed out the can completely and filled it with chicken food. Not gonna set the trap until the girls are in bed. Im afraid I'll catch them before the raccoon

@Ninjasquirrel - The Duke dog-proof traps are a little foot hold trap that you stake into the ground, that are too small for a dog to get their paw stuck in (regular foot traps often will catch a dog). They are useful because raccoons are very grabby- they use their paws to reach out for their food. They're relatively inexpensive if you look up a website for "trapping supplies" (highly recommend the folks at Minnesota Trapline). But if you can borrow a bigger live trap, go for it. The one for squirrels/rabbits won't catch a big raccoon!

I think it will have no problem catching that coon. I can fit probably 3 of my birds in it! I will definately give an update if we are successful.
