Racoon killed my pet cat by front door!

He loved my baby chicks, was old and sleeping in his "outside" house...did not deserve this.

He was such a pretty cat! Kill that freaking raccoon just for him!!! Leave some bait out were you can see and wait for him. Poor kitty

Aw, poor cat.

Fear of beasties is why I always put my cat out with my dog (they both wear invisible fence collars). She's big and fearless and crazy and nothing comes in the yard when she's out there. But I had no idea a coon would go after a cat unprovoked - I've seen so many instances of them tolerating one another that I never really realized they would go after my kitties.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I know how terrible those varmits can be. And I love love animals. But I can't stand them killing my chickens all the time.

We have some friends that set traps and kill the wild critters for us, I could never do it myself.

I think in two months alone he caught and killed 4 racoons, 3 skunks, and 6 possums.

I've been chased by racoons that live in my barn, and I've accidentally picked up a possum when I thought it was a cat before.

Luckily I have a puppy now, and we haven't lost any chickens since she came. But I do have to put up with her barking all night long everynight. So I haven't decided if it was worth it yet. I'm pretty sleepy. lol

Again sorry for your loss, and I hope that you have luck with getting rid of the coon.

I had a coon come after some kittens on my front porch once. I hear dth emom cat screamign and ran out to see it trying to run off with a kitten in it's mouth. I grabbed the only thing at hand and ran after it. It stopped to snarl at me and I hit that thing with all my might with a shovel. I knocked it tail over teakttle. I figured the kitten was dead so I couldn't hurt it. Ended up beating the darn raccooon to death right there in the front yard.

Amazingly the kitten was a little banged up but otherwise fine.

WOW! Good for you. Only thing I was able to knock in the head once was an old possum eating the cat's food but I didn't hit it hard enough to do much damage. It just scurried away. Got it another day though.

These racoons here can really run fast! Good thing that one stopped so you could slam it. Your post made me laugh amidst the tears. Thanks!

I will get this one for what he did to Smokey.....

I won't dare show my son this thread. He's 17yrs old, football player, 6'3'', but he'd be crying his eyes out. He loves cats, and will tolerate dogs. Loves the chickens as well. He's been wanting a solid black, long hair cat for years. Oh how terrible for you losing Smokey!!

I am so sorry you lost your kitty --- so precious and loving. I lost our family bunny on Tuesday in much the same way as your kitty. We have free range chickens and 3 chicks (pinned) so I am taking note of all the ways you folks say to get the "Mean Coons". We live in Oregon and some of the neighbors feed the coons and say how cute they are ----- NOT SO! Our bunny (6 years old) had the run of the yard - much like your kitty so now I am not a very nice Grandma when it comes to something getting my pets!
Again --- So sorry for your kitty and this Granny has got her gun!
